Set directly on the waterfront in Prince Edward County, Wentworth Landscapes designed a lakeside retreat that balances openness with definition. Armourstone terraces gently organize the property into distinct areas for dining, lounging, entertaining, and relaxation, while preserving panoramic views across the lake.
The substantial scale of the stonework gives the landscape a sense of permanence, drawing on the limestone geology that is fundamental to the character of Prince Edward County. The result is a landscape that feels unified rather than segmented—a cohesive waterfront environment designed for life at the water’s edge.
The terrace is conceived as a complete outdoor living environment, bringing together spaces for cooking, dining, conversation, and relaxation against a backdrop of open sky and water.
A seventeen-foot granite bar serves as the centerpiece of the outdoor kitchen, while a lakeside hot tub and a suspended wicker pod lounger that extends over the shoreline create opportunities for relaxation at the water’s edge. Together, these elements support a lifestyle that moves effortlessly between entertaining and quiet moments overlooking the lake.
Two Paloform Fold fire tables occupy different positions across the terrace, each carefully proportioned to its setting. The more compact of the two defines an intimate seating area, its balanced form well-suited to gatherings that draw people close and encourage conversation.
The larger table extends through the main lounge, its long, low profile providing warmth across the entire seating arrangement while reinforcing the strong horizontal lines of the landscape. Together, the two fire features serve distinct roles within the design: one intimate and conversational, the other broad and communal, allowing the terrace to accommodate gatherings of different scales while maintaining a cohesive design language.
As daylight fades, a carefully considered lighting scheme reveals a different character within the landscape. Stone walls, terraces, and gathering spaces fade softly into darkness while the fire tables cast a warm glow towards the lake beyond. The result is an outdoor living environment that feels just as inviting after sunset as it does beneath the open sky of day.
