A Paloform fire pit is designed to deliver years of effortless enjoyment, operating reliably with minimal intervention. Each material and component is selected to endure outdoor environments while minimizing the need for ongoing maintenance.
That said, like any gas appliance exposed to heat and the elements, it benefits from thoughtful, routine care. Here are a few simple fire pit maintenance tips that will help ensure consistent performance and allow the piece to age as intended.
Enjoy it. Often.

The most effective way to maintain your Paloform fire pit is also the simplest: use it regularly. Consistent operation helps moderate temperature and humidity fluctuations that can lead to condensation on internal components.
When left unused, a fire pit becomes more susceptible to moisture buildup, insect ingress, and corrosion.
Cover it, but don’t overdo it

Paloform fire pits are designed for outdoor use and perform well across a wide range of conditions. Even so, prolonged exposure to extreme weather—heavy rain, high winds, ice, snow, and temperature extremes—can accelerate wear if the unit is left unprotected.
The fabric weather cover is intended for these moments. We recommend using it during severe weather events, or when the fire pit will remain unused for extended periods (weeks or months).
During the regular use season, however, the fire pit benefits from being left uncovered and used frequently. It allows the unit to “breathe,” supporting airflow to internal components and helping maintain optimal condition.
This is particularly true of Corten steel, whose protective patina develops and strengthens through repeated wetting and drying cycles.
As a general rule, ensure the fire pit is fully cooled and dry before applying the cover. Trapped moisture, over time, can lead to avoidable issues.
Cleaning

Under normal conditions, only minimal cleaning is required. If wind has deposited leaves or debris in the burner pan, remove it prior to use. This can be done with a soft brush, or carefully with a blower or vacuum. If using a light decorative media such as lava pebble, take care, as it can easily be displaced or drawn into a vacuum.
Corten steel, in particular, should not be cleaned under normal circumstances. It is best left exposed to the elements, allowing its natural patina to develop and resolve most aesthetic variation over time.
Beyond the burner area, surfaces can be cleaned as needed with a duster or a damp cloth.
Note: Each material has its own characteristics. Please refer to the Material Care section on our website for specific guidance.
Inspection

As certified gas appliances, fire pits should be inspected at least annually by a licensed gas technician. This inspection should include both visual and functional checks of the unit.
A technician will be able to ensure that it is operating properly and identify any current or potential issues. We recommend scheduling this before the season of most intensive use. Please refer to your fire pit’s installation manual for complete details.
Proper shutdown

Most issues arise not during use, but afterward—when the fire pit should be fully shut down. Ensuring that the unit cannot be inadvertently ignited is essential to protecting both the fire pit and its surroundings.
For match-lit units, confirm that the control is set to the “OFF” position when not in use. Leaving it in “PILOT” allows gas to continue flowing, potentially keeping the pilot lit and creating an unseen hazard.
For electronic ignition systems, eliminate any possibility of unintended startup by shutting off either the power or the gas supply—by switching off the electrical circuit at the breaker and/or closing the manual gas valve.
With thoughtful use and minimal care, your Paloform fire pit will continue to perform reliably and develop character over time. Designed to endure and age with intention, it is a piece meant to be enjoyed season after season.
